Real Change
At The Palmetto Excel Center, adults walk through our doors carrying dreams they’ve held onto for years – dreams often paused by hardship, doubt, or being told that it was “too late.” But here, the story shifts. Hope returns. Confidence rebuilds. And every student discovers the truth: you can always begin again.
Testimonials:
Karshay Warren
From the age of 16, Karshay carried responsibilities far beyond her years – leaving school to help her single mother keep the family afloat. Now a mother of four herself, she refuses to let the obstacles of her past limit the possibilities of her future. With dreams of becoming a teacher and showing her daughters that perseverance always wins, Karshay walked through the doors of The Palmetto Excel Center determined to rewrite her story.
Jakwan Anderson
By 19, Jakwan found himself still in high school, disconnected, discouraged, and struggling to find motivation. School felt like a place where he didn’t fit – until he found The Palmetto Excel Center. Here, he rediscovered purpose, ownership, and a chance to prove to himself that he was capable of so much more.
Karen Gibbs
At 17, Karen stepped away from school to care for her younger siblings, putting her family’s needs ahead of her own. But the weight of not having a diploma followed her into adulthood, leaving her feeling stuck and unseen. When she found The Palmetto Excel Center, everything changed. Welcomed with open arms and support at every step, Karen began reclaiming her confidence – and her future.
Our students are parents, providers, and everyday heroes balancing work, family, and challenge – yet still choosing to rise and refusing to let their past define their future. With flexible schedules, transportation assistance, childcare, and one-to-one coaching, The Palmetto Excel Center becomes more than a school. It becomes the support system and a community that makes transformation possible.
La'kayla Sherrod
La’kayla’s road has been anything but easy. Battling lupus, enduring months in the hospital, undergoing chemo, and even facing paralysis – her body changed faster than she could process. But through every setback, she held onto one goal: finishing her diploma. When she found The Palmetto Excel Center, she found not just a school, but a community that believed in her strength.
Marcia Brown
Pregnant at 16 and navigating multiple school transfers, Marcia’s education fell through the cracks. She built a life without a diploma, working for years as a home health and hospice caregiver – until disability forced her to start over. When she discovered The Palmetto Excel Center, she describes it as “heaven” – a place where support is real, encouragement is constant, and every teacher feels like family.
And transformation is happening. Graduates are stepping into new careers, new opportunities, and new futures they once thought were out of reach. The voices below share what courage looks like when people choose hope over fear and opportunity over doubt. Their stories show exactly what can happen when determination is met with unwavering support: lives change, families strengthen, and hope becomes real.
