Classes and Certifications

The Palmetto Excel Center is an adult charter high school under the South Carolina Public Charter School District and is subject to following all course and graduation guidelines as directed by the State of South Carolina.

Each student is required by South Carolina law to have earned 24 specific credits. Students can earn all credits at The Palmetto Excel Center or transfer specific courses previously earned and reported on their high school transcript.

The Palmetto Excel Center offers the following courses:

  • English (1-4, Principles of English 1 and 2.)
  • Social Studies (Human Geography, Modern World History, U.S. History and Constitution, and Government and Economics.)
  • Mathematics (Principles of Mathematics 1 and 2, Foundational Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Probability and Statistics)
  • Science (Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry)
  • Elective Courses: (Computer Programming, Health, Physical Education, Art History, Music Appreciation, Personal Finance, Certification, Senior Seminar, dual enrollment.

The Palmetto Excel Center, a South Carolina Public Charter Workforce Center of Excellence, offers certification options for students in categories targeting higher-than-average labor demands in the Charleston metro area:

  • CompTIA+
  • Certified Nurse’s Aide (C.N.A.)
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A Truck Driving
  • Culinary Arts
  • HVAC- Technicians Assistant
  • Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Technology Core Manufacturing Assembly
  • Veterinary Assistant
  • Welding- Introduction to Arc Welding

Students are also granted certification status for completing the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery exam (ASVAB) and engaging in the preparation process for recruit training with the Armed Services branch of their choice.

Students seeking post-secondary academic or technical degrees and who academically qualify are allowed to complete two core academic courses (six college credits) related to their chosen field of study.
